Kaisersturz is a German television film by director Christoph Röhl . The docu-drama was shown for the first time on October 31, 2018 on ZDF . The book Kaisersturz - On Failure in the Heart of Power by the historian Lothar Machtan forms the basis of the film.

In autumn 1918 the monarchy collapsed in Germany and a republic was proclaimed. The film tells the struggle for power between the imperial regime and the growing democratic forces up to November 9, 1918. The main characters are Wilhelm II , his wife Auguste Viktoria , Friedrich Ebert and Max von Baden .

The film was shot from September 12, 2017 to October 9, 2017 in Berlin , Kassel , Nuremberg and Potsdam . In the New Palais in Potsdam, the summer residence of the last emperor, recordings were made in the magnificent grotto hall . Another location was the Bergpark Wilhelmshöhe in Kassel.
The premiere took place on October 1, 2018 at the Hamburg Film Festival .
The docudrama is produced by Walid Nakschbandi, managing director of AVE publishing GmbH & Co.KG, a media company of the Holtzbrinck Publishing Group.
The author of the book, Lothar Machtan, was the film's advisor and co-author of the screenplay.
