Theater heute is a monthly German theater magazine . It was launched in 1960 by Erhard Friedrich and Henning Rischbieter as a West German counterpart to the periodical Theater der Zeit , which was originally founded in 1946 as a theater magazine for the Soviet occupation zone / GDR .

Although it is the youngest of the relevant German theater magazines for all lines (also from the German Theater Association published the German stage longer exists), developed theater today the most influential and widely read trade magazine of the German theater world. The editors are Eva Behrendt and Franz Wille. The circulation is 15,000 copies, the reach is around 30,000 readers. The magazine is published by Der Theaterverlag - Friedrich Berlin GmbH .

Annual awards

Every year, Theater heute asks German-speaking critics about the theater of the year , the director of the year, the actor of the year , the young actor of the year and the play of the year. These awards are among the most important in the German-speaking theater world.
