Constanze Becker

Constanze Becker (born May 16, 1978 in Lübeck ) is a German actress .

Life

Constanze Becker grew up in an old farmhouse near Lübeck. Her mother ran an antique shop, her father was a commercial artist. With her mother she often visited the Thalia Theater in Hamburg, including at least 40 times The Black Rider by Robert Wilson . At the age of 15 she got her first role in the youth theater project Fear of the Pogrom . She discovered her preference for tragic female roles, for which she later became known in German theaters.

Becker graduated from the Ernestinenschule in 1997 . She completed an acting degree at the Ernst Busch Academy of Dramatic Art in Berlin . The film director Andres Veiel documented her training as well as that of three other drama students in his 2003 documentary Die Spielwütigen . After graduating, Becker was first a member of the ensemble at the Schauspiel Leipzig and then at the Düsseldorfer Schauspielhaus . In Düsseldorf she worked for the first time with the director Jürgen Gosch .

In 2006 she moved to the Deutsche Theater Berlin , where she took on the first role of Clytaimnestra in the Oresty of Aeschylus , directed by Michael Thalheimer . In 2007 this production was invited to the Berlin Theatertreffen . In the 2007/2008 season, Constanze Becker appeared in two other award-winning productions of the Deutsches Theater, in Gerhart Hauptmann's Die Ratten as Mrs. John again directed by Michael Thalheimer and in Uncle Wanja directed by Jürgen Gosch.

The production Die Ratten was awarded the Nestroy Theater Prize in 2008 and that of Uncle Vanya as “Production of the Year” by Theater heute ; both productions were invited to the 2008 Theatertreffen Berlin. In addition, Constanze Becker was nominated for the Faust Theater Prize in 2008 for her role as Mrs. John in Die Ratten .

In the 2009/10 season she moved to the Schauspiel Frankfurt . In 2013 she made her debut as a director there with Marieluise Fleißer's Purgatory in Ingolstadt . She has been part of the Berliner Ensemble since the 2017/2018 season .
