Karin Henkel
Karin Henkel (born August 15, 1970 in Cologne ) is a German theater director .
Life
Having grown up in Cologne and Lübeck , Henkel studied history and German in Hamburg after graduating from school in 1989. After dropping out of her studies, she took a position as assistant director at the Hessisches Staatstheater Wiesbaden , and in 1993 she made her directorial debut there with Collin Serreaus Hase Hase . In the same year she was assistant director at the Burgtheater in Vienna , where she initially acted as assistant to George Tabori under the directorate of Claus Peymann , but in 1994 she started her own work with her production of Elfriede Jelinek's Die Ausgesperrten (own stage version) in the vestibule recommended larger stages. Finally, in 1995, at the age of 25, she was the youngest director ever to present a directorial work at the Akademietheater.
Leander Haußmann brought Karin Henkel into his directorship at the Schauspielhaus Bochum , where she also directed under his successor Matthias Hartmann . Further stations were the Thalia Theater , the Deutsche Schauspielhaus in Hamburg as well as the Berliner Ensemble , the Schauspielhaus Zurich and the Theater Bremen .
In 2016 it was announced that Henkel would be staging for the first time at the Salzburg Festival in 2017 . She directed the play Rose Bernd von Gerhart Hauptmann . At the start of the Berlin Theatertreffen 2018, the director received the Berlin Theater Prize endowed with 20,000 euros in a ceremony.
