Alexander Scheer (born June 1, 1976 in Berlin ) is a German actor and musician .

Life

Scheer attended the Georg-Friedrich-Händel-Gymnasium in East Berlin with a focus on music . In addition to singing , he played piano and drums in various bands . He left school after the 11th grade and took up various occupations. During this period he also appeared as an actor in product advertisements and made his own amateur films with friends. The film series “American Showdown” by André Jagusch, in which Scheer was in front of the camera, was a small festival hit and was shown, for example, at the Young Film Scene Workshop and at the Weiterstadt Open Air Film Festival . At a casting he became a directorLeander Haussmann discovered who cast him in his film Sonnenallee . After the shooting, Scheer Haußmann followed the Schauspielhaus Bochum . There he played in plays such as Much Ado About Nothing , Leonce and Lena and Der Sturm .

Subsequently he worked with directors such as Christoph Marthaler , Frank Castorf and Stefan Pucher and appeared in productions such as “Berlin Alexanderplatz” and “Der Idiot” at the Volksbühne Berlin and “Die Möwe” at the Schauspielhaus in Hamburg. He was awarded the Ulrich Wildgruber Prize for his acting performance. For the embodiment of the English Shakespeare actor Edmund Kean in Frank Castorf's 2009 Volksbühne production of the same name, Alexander Scheer from Theater heute was voted actor of the year. In addition to his theater engagements, he has also appeared in national and international film productions such as Viktor Vogel - Commercial Man , Das wilde Leben , Mrs. Ratcliffe's Revolution or Carlos - The Jackal , which premiered at the Cannes Film Festival in 2010.

To prepare for the portrayal of Keith Richards in the film Das Wilde Leben , Scheer founded the band The Rockboys , which played concerts for one summer. In 2007 he joined Jan Opoczynski as a guitarist in his band The International Competition . The following year he became the front man of the Viennese band group level . In 2009 he toured Europe as a percussionist with The Whitest Boy Alive . In 2012, he appeared as Mephistopheles in Goethe's tragedy Faust on.

Scheer played a total of 16 years under Castorf at the Volksbühne. He was critical of the decision of the Berlin Senator for Culture, Tim Renner , not to extend Castorf's contract as artistic director. He then asked Renner not to enter the theater again. When he met him there in 2018 after a film screening, he poured a glass of beer over his head.

Scheer played the title role in Andreas Dresen's biography Gundermann about the East German songwriter, rock musician and excavator operator Gerhard Gundermann , singing all the songs himself. For this role he was awarded the German Film Prize 2019 for Best Actor .

Scheer had a long relationship with the fashion designer Esther Perbandt .
