Awake is a feature film by the German director Kim Frank , which was first broadcast on ZDF on September 17, 2018 . At the same time, it was published free of charge on YouTube . The film was produced in March 2018. In wax is about two friends who without drugs - want to stay awake - as long as it goes. “Two friends want to stay awake as long as possible - without drugs. C. (Jana McKinnon) and Nike (Alli Neumann) are 17, but claim to be 20. You want out. Get out of the lack of perspective. You want to feel yourself. A pure experience. An intoxicating journey through 86 sleepless hours begins. C. and Nike film the experiment. Capture everything on your camera. But tiredness forces them back into reality. An end that is also the end of her youth.
Nike's dad is never home. The small apartment in a social housing estate is the perfect place for your experiment. You shop for several days. Tape up the windows and hide all the clocks in order to lose track of time. But when Nike's father turns up unexpectedly, it drives C. and Nike out. Out into the rainy ghetto. They are attacked on the street. You have to get out of here.
In the city, Nike is losing what little money they have with them. The girlfriends are about to break off. But they can't go home. You want to stay awake.
The cold of the night drives them to dark places in the city. A strange, deep world in which they have no business. They meet Jesco (Dennis Mojen) in a dark minimal club. He is a few years older and has a car. A road trip begins that confronts C. and Nike with their fears and dreams, puts their friendship to the test, and at the end of which it is a matter of life and death. "
Emergence
After seven years of unsuccessful efforts to finance his debut film, Kim Frank came up with the idea of making a low budget found footage film outside of the horror genre that is widespread in this category with a digital SLR camera and publishing it on YouTube. Wach was filmed in Hamburg and Schleswig-Holstein in March 2018. The film was produced on behalf of ZDF - Das kleine Fernsehspiel und funk . WACH (OST) was interpreted as the title song by Dat Adam .
