Max Hopp (born July 26, 1972 in East Berlin ) is a German actor and director .

Life

Hopp completed his training at the Ernst Busch Academy of Dramatic Art in Berlin. He began his acting career in 1995 at the Bremen Theater , after he was a teenager between 1986 and 1989, still under the name Marcus Hopp, in the comedy series of the GDR holiday home Bergkristall as Robert Schneeberger , later Robert Wachtel .

He later had engagements at the Schauspielhaus Hamburg (1996 to 2000), at the Schauspielhaus Zurich (2001 to 2005), at the Münchner Kammerspiele (2001 to 2003) and at the Deutsches Theater Berlin (2002). Max Hopp has been working regularly at the Volksbühne Berlin on Rosa-Luxemburg-Platz since 2005 . In the 2012/2013 season Max Hopp can be seen in a leading role at Theater Basel together with Michael von der Heide in the rock opera The Black Rider (directed by Corinna von Rad).

Max Hopp played under directors such as Barbara Bilabel , Dimiter Gotscheff , Christoph Marthaler , Frank Castorf , Ronald Steckel , Ulrich Waller , Luk Perceval , Calixto Bieito and Elke Lang . He also played the solo programs Epitaph and Hollywood Songbook .

Max Hopp is a co-founder of the nootheater , a Berlin artist group whose first work is the documentary The beautiful light of utopia . Max Hopp has also been present in the cinema and television since 2000. He was involved in the theater adaptations Lulu by Frank Wedekind and Peer Gynt by Henrik Ibsen . He became known to a broader television audience as the quirky, dutiful police chief Mark Dononelli in the ZDF series Doktor Martin , from 2007 to 2018 he was also regularly seen in the crime series Bella Block . In the 2019/2020 season, Max Hopp will direct the opera Zanaida at the Mainz State Theater .
