Hans im Glück is a German fairy tale film from 2015 that was created as part of the ARD series Six in One fell swoop . It is based on the fairy tale of the same name by the Brothers Grimm .

action

After seven years of apprenticeship at a spice dealer, Hans now wants to return to his mother and the sea. The dealer is reluctant to let the clever Hans go. As a reward for his service, he receives a lump of pure gold. In a happy mood and singing, Hans sets off on the long way to the sea. On the way he meets the trader Knudsen and his daughter Elisabeth, who are on their way to Buxtehude and want to do business there. Hans makes a great impression on Elisabeth, and luck would have it that he will meet her again several times.

The gold nugget soon turns out to be very uncomfortable for the trip, so that Hans seizes the first opportunity for a swap and receives a horse instead of the gold. Happy not to have to walk anymore, to move faster and not to have to carry heavy loads anymore, Hans rides away. But soon he is sorry, because he cannot handle the horse properly and so it throws him off after a brisk gallop. When a farmer comes along with a cow, Hans envies the man that he has such a stately, strong animal that can also give milk and swaps the horse for the cow.

In front of an inn, Hans meets Elisabeth and her father again, who have stopped here for a rest. Elisabeth is astonished that instead of a lump of gold, Hans only owns a cow, which is obviously worth much less than a large lump of gold. She says he had exchanged badly, but he replies: “What do I care what is worth to others? It has to make me happy. Why should I get angry and bother with something that only hinders me? ”That makes sense to Elisabeth and together they sit down in the pub, have a drink and are happy. Then everyone goes their own way and at the end of the day Hans wants to drink some milk from his cow. Only now does he notice that the animal is not giving any milk and so he exchanges the cow, which is now worthless for him, for a pig. Happy with his exchange, he goes on his way and meets Karl, who recognizes the simplicity of Hans and simply tells him that the pig was stolen and therefore gives him his goose for the pig. On his way he met a scissors grinder who praised his craft in the highest tones. As a scissors grinder you would be the happiest person in the world and Hans is ready to exchange his goose for an old grindstone. But Hans quickly gets tired of this exchange, because the stone is just as heavy as its gold nugget at the beginning and it is only difficult to make progress on its way. When he sees a fountain on the side of the road and wants to drink, the grindstone falls into it and now he stands empty-handed, but he is happy and free. Hans continues his way so carefree and finally reaches the sea, where he unexpectedly meets Elisabeth again and is happy to be able to share his happiness with her.

Reviews

This time Rainer Tittelbach from tittelbach.tv said little appreciatively: “The plot is thin. The subtext is all the richer, but whether it will penetrate the viewer in all its diversity is questionable. The material offers little in terms of film: Dramaturgically, visually and in terms of acting, the makers had to move on the level of the typical field-forest-meadow fairy tales of the first ARD hours. It's actually a shame, the individual happiness experience is more an issue than ever! "

The editorial team of TV Spielfilm , on the other hand, gave the fairy tale a “thumbs up”.
