Princess Maleen is a German fairy tale film that was produced by BR in 2015 for the ARD series Six in One Stroke and is based on Grimm's fairy tale Jungfrau Maleen . The film was shot in South Tyrol , among others .

Princess Maleen is about to be married. However, she rejects her father's favorite, Prince Theodor, because she loves Landgrave Konrad. Her father has her locked in the defense tower, where she is supposed to spend seven years and reconsider her love for Konrad. Seven years later, Maleen is able to free himself and realizes that her father has died. She makes her way to the Landgrave, who in the meantime has to believe that Maleen has since passed away. So the marriage between him and the rich but disfigured noblewoman Walpurga von Schwarztal is being prepared, with whose inheritance Konrad wants to save his county. However, Walpurga only wants to marry him so that her inheritance does not go to her brother, and plans to poison Konrad after the marriage. Maleen is now working, without knowing it, as a maid at Konrad's court. Walpurga and her maid force Maleen, unnoticed by Konrad, to take Walpurga's place in front of the altar and marry him. Maleen must swear not to lift the veil. When she faces Walpurga's groom, Maleen recognizes Konrad. On the way to the church, she speaks to a nettle bush and a church staircase. Before the wedding, Konrad gives his bride a necklace that has been in his family for generations. After the marriage, Walpurga wants to kill Konrad and hands him a mug of poisoned wine. Before he starts to drink, Konrad asks Walpurga what she said about the nettle bush and the church stairs, to which she has no answer and, with the help of her maid Maleen, forces her to reveal the answers. Ultimately, however, Konrad also recognizes the fraud and the attempted murder. The marriage between him and Maleen is declared valid, Walpurga and her maid have to leave the property without their carriage. In addition, Walpurga has lost its claim to its inheritance.
