The film Little Brother and Sister is a German fairy tale film from 2008. It is based on the fairy tale Little Brother and Little Sister and was created as part of the fairy tale film series Six in One Stroke , which Erste Deutsche Fernsehen first broadcast in the 2008 Christmas program.

Little brothers and sisters get a new stepmother and have to stand by and watch as she poisons her husband and takes over the family's property together with her daughter. Little brothers and sisters are locked in the stables with dry bread and can only escape torture by brave escape. In the forest, the thirst of the desperate children is rampant, but the evil stepmother puts a curse on every tempting spring , which turns the children into wild animals as soon as they drink from the spring. After several attempts, little brother can no longer resist and is transformed into a deer . Little sister finds a hut and lives there happily for a long time with her “brother deer”. One day the king discovers the deer while hunting , follows it to the hut and falls in love with the little sister. After he took them to his castle and married his sister, she gave birth to a child. But the stepmother's envy conjures new calamities. Disguised as a wet nurse , she and her daughter gain the trust of the young queen. She lures them to a hot steam bath in a remote room and locks it. The queen suffocates and turns into a pigeon , which flies to the cot at night (" What is my child doing? What is my deer doing? "). To deceive the king, the unsightly stepsister lies down in the queen's bed and, with her face covered, simulates a contagious disease. The unsuspecting king eventually becomes aware of the hoax. The two bad women die while trying to escape, while the little brother and sister return to their human form.
background
The film was shot in July 2008 in the Johanniterburg Kühndorf and in the Veßra monastery in Thuringia. The first broadcast took place on December 20, 2008.
As in all six adaptations, some details have been left out. In the original, for example, the daughter is led into the forest at the end and torn apart by animals. In the film, only a pile of ashes of her and her stepmother remains in the courtyard of the castle after a fall.
