Der Froschkönig is a German fairy tale film from 2008. It is based on the fairy tale Der Froschkönig or the iron Heinrich and was created as part of the fairy tale film series Six in One Stroke , which Erste Deutsche Fernsehen first broadcast in the 2008 Christmas program.

action

The golden ball lands in the pond at Schloss Favorite near Rastatt

Princess Sophie is celebrating her 18th birthday and, according to her father's wishes, she is supposed to marry a rich prince to save the ailing kingdom from ruin. In her uncertainty, she places hope in the legacy of her deceased mother, who is surrounded by secrets - a golden ball that is supposed to help the princess with magical powers in the difficult decision. However, the gift falls into the castle pond while playing. An enchanted frog prince promises to save the ball if, in return, he gets access to the dining table and the private chambers of the princess. After he has kept his promise, Sophie, among the birthday guests, agrees, after some hesitation, to let the frog prince eat from her plate. When he jumps into her four-poster bed in the evening, she releases him from his magic by throwing it against the wall and transforms him back into a beautiful prince named Floris. A month later, Sophie, who is in love, accompanies him in the carriage on the way to his home country. Now the loyal servant Heinrich, who wrapped his heart with three iron ties from sheer pain over the loss of his master , can finally get rid of all his fetters.

background

The film was shot in April and May 2008 in the two baroque palaces Favorite and Rastatt in Baden-Württemberg . The first broadcast took place on December 21, 2008.

As in other films in the series, the original fairy tale version has been revised. In particular, the princess’s social environment, her manners and dialogues have an unmistakable relationship to the present. The computer-animated frog was subsequently integrated into the scenes shot on the film set .

Reviews

“Slightly modified, fresh and entertaining modernized (TV) version of Grimm's fairy tale despite the historicizing staging. In the old costumes are young women with a present-day attitude who are making their experiences on the difficult path to self-discovery . "
