The film Tischlein deck dich is a German fairy tale film from the year 2008. It is based on the fairy tale Tischchen deck dich, gold donkey and stick out of the sack and was created as part of the fairy tale film series Six in One Stroke , which the Erste Deutsche Fernsehen in its Christmas program 2008 first broadcast.

Max lives in a small town with his brothers and father. He is in love with Lotte. His older brothers go on a hike to learn a trade. When Max is supposed to feed the angry goat, she says it is full. But when his father asks the goat whether it is really full, it lies. The father chases Max away. Max also goes on a hike to learn a trade like his brothers . On his way into the wide world, he is attacked by robbers in the forest. He also finds a dog. Because the dog is hungry, he steals cake from the tailor. After he apologized, the seamstress asks him if he would like to become a tailor. Max is clumsy at first, but then gets better and better. One day a nobleman becomes aware of new types of dungarees that Max had made. Because a lot of people now buy dungarees, the tailors gain unimagined prosperity and reward Max with a wonderful “stick in a sack”. He beats up anyone who wants to do something bad to the owner. His brothers also received presents, a "little table-deck-you" and a "gold donkey". In the inn, the landlord and his wife steal the two presents and exchange them. When the three brothers meet, they notice the vertigo. Max is now going to the inn, supposedly to spend the night. He reveals his supposedly magnificent property, but does not mean the club. The landlord and the woman find the stick during the night and Max lets go of the stick on them both. When they are beaten, they return the two presents. At home he celebrates with his brothers, his father, who apologizes because he also noticed afterwards, and a party with his lover Lotte. The two marry and Max's father and Imme - Lotte's mother - also get together.

The film was shot in May and June 2008 in the LWL open-air museum in Detmold and the surrounding area. The first broadcast took place on December 20, 2008.
In contrast to the literary model, a detailed description of the experiences of all three brothers was dispensed with in the film in favor of a single protagonist . With Max at the center, the story was told without repetitions of similar courses of action and the viewer was drawn to the side of a central figure. In addition, there is no Lotte in the fairy tale and therefore no wedding.
