action

Four years ago, the king had the town's adult residents, all of them weavers, kidnapped. They are forced to work off their tax debt in his service. Only the children and the elderly are left behind and live in dire poverty. When the tax collectors come again one day and ask for more money, which the poor people cannot afford, the village elder asks two boys to go to the king to ask his forgiveness. When the boys refuse, little Mina steps in. Equipped with two silver coins, a rag doll from her mother and a lucky charm from her ancestors, she sets off to unleash the fathers and mothers. On the way to the castle, she experiences a lot of suffering and misery from the inhabitants of the kingdom. Mina finds an advocate in the queen when the king wants her to be thrown into dungeon because she criticized his conduct as unjust and believed that a good king would take care of his people. He allows the girl to look for her parents in his court. If she could find her by sundown, she and the other weavers in the village would be free; if she didn't succeed, they'd have to work off their debt to him, and if it were until the end of their lives. As Mina sits sad and desperate in a forest clearing, it suddenly rains gold coins from the sky. With a wagon full of the thalers, she steps in front of the king and pours gold thaler upon gold thaler at his feet. The king wants to know from Mina how she did it and runs greedily to the forest clearing when she tells him the story. He undresses so that gold coins will rain on his shirt too. His soldiers see him and arrest him because it is forbidden in the kingdom to walk around naked. They only laugh at his assurance that he is the king. They take him to the quarry, where he should learn to work properly for once.

Mina, her parents and all weavers in the village as well as all citizens of the empire are free because Mina has given the king so many gold coins that her debts are settled for all time.

background

Rochus Hahn wrote the script based on the fairy tale by the Brothers Grimm . Directed by Maria von Heland . The editor on behalf of SWR is Margret Schepers . Uschi Reich and Michael Hild produce for Bavaria Film . The cameraman is Roman Osin . The shooting was scheduled from January 24, 2011 to February 11, 2011. The production costs were around one million euros. The most important filming locations were the Reichsburg Cochem in Rhineland-Palatinate , where ten-year-old Mina ( Meira Durand ) wants to ask the king ( Thomas Loibl ) and the queen ( Juliane Köhler ) for mercy for her parents, who have been abducted from their village for forced labor, and the open-air museum Neuhausen ob Eck in Baden-Württemberg . In the museum village, the Black Forest house with mill and saw, the day laborer's house and the village square formed the setting for day and night shots, in which thalers fell over the poor girl through a special effect from the starry sky. The 50-strong film team stayed in Neuhausen for almost two weeks. Another scene was on February 2nd and 3rd near Gutenstein , a district of the town of Sigmaringen , where Mina and the talking dog "Mr. Flix" were rowed across the Danube by a ferryman in a wooden boat.

The shooting was documented in a making-of , which was also broadcast on the day of the first broadcast of Die Sterntaler and can be found as bonus material on the DVD.

Das Erste called on its viewers at the end of 2012 to vote on the six most popular fairy tale films in the series Six in one go , which were broadcast from 2008. Around 10,000 votes were received by October 28, 2012. The film Die Sterntaler took 4th place in this voting. The fairy tale Cinderella landed in first place .

criticism

TV Spielfilm came to the conclusion: “A highlight among the ARD fairy tale films: touching story with moral, dark, but well equipped and cast (including Juliane Köhler and Axel Prahl). Truly fairytale film adaptation ”and gave four out of five stars.
