Roman Osin (* 1961 in Leipzig ) is an award-winning British cameraman of German-Nigerian origin in film who oversaw over 20 international film productions in the 2000s and 2010s, including films such as Under the Stars , Pride and Prejudice , Um Klassen better , The Autopsy of Jane Doe or Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark .

life and career

Roman Osin, born in Leipzig in 1961, is a British cameraman of German-Nigerian descent who studied at the London College of Printing from 1981 to 1985, where he obtained a Bachelor of Arts in film and photography. From 1991 to 1995 another degree followed at the National Film and Television School in Beaconsfield (near London ). Osin began his career directing music videos and three dance films on behalf of the Arts Council, before working as a cameraman for short and documentary films in the early 1990s. In 2001 he was in charge of the dramatic adventure film The Warrior for director Asif Kapadia, his first own feature film production, for which he received the British Independent Film Award in the Best Technical Achievement category. This was followed by other films such as Under the Stars for Christos Georgiou, Big Girls Don't Cry for the German director Maria von Heland or the Oscar-winning drama Pride and Prejudice for the British director Joe Wright . For the director friend Asif Kapadia he provided the images for his two film productions The Return in 2006 and 2007 for Far North . The director Zach Helm hired him in the same year for his mystery film Mr. Magoriums Wunderladen with Natalie Portman and Dustin Hoffman . In the 2010s he photographed feature films such as the gangster drama Gangs of Glasgow by the Scottish director Peter Mullan , the film drama Um Klassen better for the American director and screenwriter Daniel Barnz , The Games Maker for Juan Pablo Buscarini or In the Labyrinth des Schweigens for the Italian one Director Giulio Ricciarelli . Steve Barker directed his work on the film The Rezort in 2015 . In 2016 he met the Norwegian André Øvredal , whose horror film The Autopsy of Jane Doe he shot in pictures. This collaboration led to further joint work with Øvredal in 2019 on his feature film Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark and in 2020 on his production of the film Mortal .

Roman Osin is a member of the British Society of Cinematographers .
