Die Neue Zeit is a historic German television series by director Lars Kraume about the founding years of the State Bauhaus in Weimar . August Diehl as Walter Gropius and Anna Maria Mühe as art student Dörte Helm play the leading roles . It was first broadcast on September 5, 2019 on Arte .

The journalist Stine Branderup interviewed the architect and founder of the Bauhaus , Walter Gropius , for the magazine Vanity Fair in New York in 1963 . She accuses him of not keeping his promise of equal treatment for men and women. Gropius tells her the story of his student Dörte Helm from the founding of the Bauhaus in Weimar in 1919 to the forced move to Dessau in 1925 , where the Bauhaus Dessau was founded.
