Valerie Pachner (born June 26, 1987 in Wels ) is an Austrian actress .

life and career

Valerie Pachner grew up in Bad Schallerbach ( Upper Austria ). After school, she lived in Honduras for a year , which later moved her to study international development in Vienna . She broke off this degree in favor of her acting training at the renowned Max Reinhardt Seminar , which she completed from 2009 to 2013.

During her training, Martin Kušej brought her to the Residenztheater in Munich , where she was part of the ensemble until 2017. She played, among others, Irina in Three Sisters , Mary Warren in Witch Hunt , and Elisabeth in Faith, Love Hope, and was awarded both the Friends of the Residenztheater's sponsorship prize and the Bavarian art sponsorship prize for her work on stage in 2016.

She played the leading female role in Thomas Woschitz 's film Bad Luck , which was nominated for the Max Ophüls Prize in 2015 . This was followed by Jack by Elisabeth Scharang and Vor der Morgenröte by Maria Schrader , where she played the stepdaughter of the writer Stefan Zweig at the side of Barbara Sukowa and Josef Hader .

For the leading female role of Wally Neuzil in Dieter Berner's Egon Schiele: Tod und Mädchen she received the Austrian Film Prize and Romy in 2017 .

In 2019 Marie Kreutzer's The Ground Under Feet celebrated its premiere at the Berlin International Film Festival with Valerie Pachner in the leading role . Valerie Pachner received international acclaim for her performance and was awarded the German Drama Prize , among other things . The film was shown in US cinemas and was selected by Vanity Fair as one of the 10 best films of 2019.

In the same year, Die Neue Zeit , a series about the Bauhaus co-produced by Arte and ZDF , directed by Lars Kraume , where Valerie Pachner took on the role of Gunta Stölzl .

In 2016 she played the female lead Franziska Jägerstätter in A Hidden Life, directed by Terrence Malick . The film premiered at the Cannes Film Festival in 2019 and received outstanding reviews. He was also at the International Film Festival Toronto , the film festival in Telluride , and the American Film Festival in Deauville shown. It was released in cinemas in the United States on December 13, 2019 . Valerie Pachner's portrayal was selected as one of the best of 2019 by IndieWire .
