The Wetterauer Zeitung (WZ) appears from Monday to Saturday as a daily newspaper in the region between Giessen and Frankfurt am Main . Its catchment area is the old Friedberg district of today's Wetterau district . A regional edition is also being published for the Bad Vilbel and Karben catchment area .

The sold circulation is 16,356 copies, a decrease of 34.1 percent since 1998.

history

The Wetterauer Zeitung appeared for the first time on January 4, 1834 as an “intelligence paper for the province of Upper Hesse in general, the Friedberg district and the neighboring districts in particular”.

The current title was created in 1950 when the Oberhessische Anzeiger and the Wetterauer Nachrichten merged. The first editors were Adolf Weller and Dr. Hans Rempel.

The Wetterauer Zeitung revised its entire online presence in 2017.

The central Hessian printing and publishing house GmbH & Co. KG , based in Giessen is the editor of Wetterauer Zeitung . This publisher also publishes the Gießener Allgemeine and Alsfelder Allgemeine Zeitung as well as smaller local newspapers and advertisements.

The editor-in-chief and deputy editor-in-chief is Siegfried Klingelhöfer.

In the editorial department , 15 editors produce around 20 pages with local reports every day. The supraregional cover is produced by the central editorial office in Giessen, where the newspaper is also printed.

In addition, the monthly four-color event magazine Streifzug is created by the WZ editorial team.

The Wetterauer Zeitung is the leading daily newspaper of the Wetteraukreis with a sold circulation of 16,356 copies and a reach of over 65,000 readers daily in the distribution area. The share of subscribers in the circulation sold is 94 percent.

The other publishing house products include the advertising newspaper Wetterauer Wochenpost , which is distributed to all non-subscribers in the western Wetterau district on Thursdays and Saturdays and covers almost all households there.
