Bad Schallerbach is a market town in Upper Austria in the Grieskirchen district in the Hausruckviertel with 4210 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2020). The community is located in the judicial district of Grieskirchen .
geography
Bad Schallerbach is located at an altitude of 308 m on the Trattnach in the Hausruckviertel. The extension is 3.8 km from north to south and 3.9 km from west to east. The total area is 8.4 km². 14.3% of the area is forested, 66.7% of the area is used for agriculture.
In terms of landscape, the area is part of the Inn- and Hausruckviertel hill country .

The community consists of the cadastral community Schönau.
Counting areas are Bad Schallerbach-Zentrum, Bad Schallerbach-Umgebung, Zentrum-Umgebung-Ost, Zentrum-Umgebung-N and W , with the latter Gebersdorf, Schönau and part of the village of the market town are recorded.

history
In 1190 the first documentary mention was made as Scalbach . Originally located in the eastern part of the Duchy of Bavaria , the place belonged to the Duchy of Austria since the 12th century . Since 1490 it has been assigned to the Principality of Austria ob der Enns . During the Napoleonic Wars , the place was occupied several times. Since 1918 the place belongs to the federal state of Upper Austria. In the same year, the Schallerbacher Schwefeltherme was developed. After the annexation of Austria to the German Reich on March 13, 1938, the place belonged to the Gau Oberdonau . On June 3, 1938, the name of the community Schönau was changed to the community Bad Schallerbach . After 1945 the restoration of Upper Austria took place. 1946 Bad Schallerbach is raised to the market. In 1995, after extensive renovations and extensions, the bathing facilities were opened under the name Aquapulco (alluding to Acapulco ).
The Upper Austrian State Horticultural Show 2009 Botanica took place in Bad Schallerbach.
Population development
In 1991 the community had 3,110 inhabitants according to the census, in 2001 it had 3,275 inhabitants. As both the birth balance and the migration balance remained positive, the population grew to 3,518 in 2011.

Community representation
The municipal council has been composed as follows since the municipal council election in 2015: ÖVP 14 seats, FPÖ 5 seats, SPÖ 4 seats and GRÜNE 2 seats.
Mayor is Gerhard Baumgartner ( ÖVP ), 1st Vice Mayor is Susanne Walter (ÖVP) and 2nd Vice Mayor is Gregor Binder ( FPÖ ).

Blazon :
- In red on green, rippled water, a silver fountain house , consisting of three steps and a fountain rim; four columns support a beam, which is vaulted by two arches and crowned by a spherical pommel. A green spring pours out of a black, circular hole in the drain built in front of the well.
The community colors are red-white-green .
Bad Schallerbach received the coat of arms shortly after the market survey in 1946. It shows the well house of the sulfur thermal spring built in 1932, to which the place owes its importance as a spa.
Parish partnership
The oldest parish partnership in Austria has existed with the Belgian parish since 1955. An exchange program takes place every year during the summer holidays, young people from both places are allowed to travel to Wanze and Konz or Bad Schallerbach with a guide.

The main economic area of Bad Schallerbach is tourism (health resort and tourism).
Health resort
Bad Schallerbach is a health resort known for its highly effective sulfur thermal water. The sulfur thermal spring was developed in 1918 and expanded into a modern thermal complex, the Eurothermen Resort Bad Schallerbach .
education
There are three schools in the municipality:
- An elementary school that has been run as a full-day school since the 2018/2019 school year.
- A new middle school that has also been offering day care since 2012.
- A music school , a branch school of the Landesmusikschule Grieskirchen.

- Car : Bad Schallerbach has a feeder to the Innkreis Autobahn A 8.
- Bus : The Kurti shuttle bus (visitor's taxi) has been running every half hour in the village since 2001 between 5:50 am and 11:50 am and 2:20 pm to 5:50 pm. In addition, the Walli bus line (Wallern Line) from the neighboring town of Wallern has also been operating in parts of Bad Schallerbach since 2004 . The bus routes are free for guests with a guest card and for residents of Bad Schallerbach and Wallern with an authorization card.
- The Bad Schallerbach-Wallern station exists on the Wels – Passau railway line .
Culture and sights
- Magdalenabergkirche: The church was built between 1398 and 1423 in a Gothic style.
- Schönau Church : The church served as a parish church until 1950. The interior was redesigned in 1965/66. The mosaic altarpiece with scenes from the life of St. Peter and other works of art come from the Tyrolean sacred artist Max Spielmann (1906–1984).
- Parish church Bad Schallerbach : 1956 laying of the foundation stone, 1958 inauguration of the new parish church, built according to the plans of the architect Hans Feichtinger (from Bad Schallerbach); artistic design by the Innsbruck painter Max Spielmann (1906–1984).
- Town hall: The town hall was built in 1923–1924 by Mauriz Balzarek (1872–1945), who is considered the most important Art Nouveau architect in Upper Austria. He built some buildings, the spa facilities and the promenade along the Trattnach in Bad Schallerbach.
Regular events

- International summer of music: since 1996 under the direction of artistic director Peter Gillmayr annually in Bad Schallerbach; With around 90 concerts per year, this series of events is one of the largest and most renowned in the country.
- Focal points and series: Spa orchestra / Days of Protestant Church Music Wallern / String Passion / musica sacra / Virtuoso music summer / Schallerbach vocal / Bad Schallerbach autumn reading word & sound / Advent / New Year's Eve gala.
The spa orchestra was founded in 1926, celebrated its 80th anniversary in 2006 and always plays on Saturday and Sunday afternoons from Mother's Day to the end of September.
- Concerts and lectures: various concerts and lectures take place several times a week in the Atrium conference center (formerly the guest center).
