Wanze ( Walloon : Wônse ) is a French-speaking municipality in Belgium and is located in the province of Liège , Wallonia region .

Since the amalgamation of the municipalities, the municipality of Wanze has consisted of the six villages Antheit, Bas-Oha, Huccorgne, Moha , Vinalmont and Wanze as well as the hamlet of Longpré. The average population density is relatively high (313 inhabitants / km²), but varies greatly from place to place. There are large building areas in Wanze and Antheit, while in Huccorgne and Vinalmont there are extensive rural areas. The place also shows two faces in terms of economic activity: semi-industrial areas around the sugar confectionery site in Wanze and the bioethanol plant "Biowanze" (under construction), as well as limestone quarries, but also large areas of agricultural character.

Wanze is located in the Meuse valley , in Haspengau in the Huy arrondissement , at the same distance (26 km) from Liège and Namur . The city of Huy borders directly in the south.

The municipality is located in the Burdinale-Mehaigne landscape. Part of this area belongs to the Burdinale and Mehaigne Valleys Natural Park .

District Moha

One of the oldest medieval fortresses in Belgium is located in the district of Moha. It lies on a rock spur above the Mehaigne River . Moha gave a part of the old duchy of Liège its name and was an independent county until the 13th century.

A good six kilometers to the north is the nearest motorway exit Huy-Fumal on the Belgian motorway A15 ( European route 42 ). In Wanze there is a regional train station on the Namur-Liège railway line ; National express trains also stop in Namur and Liège.

The Liege Airport , a regional airport, located about 17 kilometers away, near Brussels is the international airport of Brussels-Zaventem .
