Bassenge ( niederl./deutsch : Bitsingen ; Walloon : Bassindje ) is a municipality in the Belgian province of Liege .

geography

Community structure

The municipality is traversed by the river Geer (Dutch: Jeker). It consists of the villages of Bassenge ( Bitsingen ), Boirs , Eben-Emael , Glons (Glaaien) , Roclenge-sur-Geer ( Rukkelingen-aan-de-Jeker ) and Wonck .

history

Until 1962 the Bassenge belonged to the province of Limburg . The existing community was formed in 1977 from the merger of the sub-communities. Fort Eben-Emael is located on the banks of the Albert Canal .
