Since 1918 the place belongs to the federal state of Upper Austria. After the annexation of Austria to the German Reich on March 13, 1938, the place belonged to the Gau Oberdonau . In 1945 Upper Austria was restored. On November 6, 2016, there was a vote on whether Steegen would be merged with the neighboring communities of Peuerbach and Bruck-Waasen . coat of arms

Blazon : "In green three silver, one-to-two set horseshoes , above a golden, raised, oblique left bridge." The community colors are green and yellow. The municipal coat of arms, awarded in 1989, symbolizes the place name with the sloping bridge. The three horseshoes come from the coat of arms of the Eisterers, who were once the owners of the Steegerhof, the former Steegen Castle . At the same time they refer to the agricultural character of the community.
