history
Natternbach was mentioned in writing as "Norderenbar" as early as the 9th century and was created through a contract between Otto von Norderenbar and the Babenberg family.
At the time of the Upper Austrian Peasants' War , Natternbach played a key role. In January 1625 the dean Blasius de Livo and the Italian pastor he appointed were pelted with stones by a few hundred farmers and chased away in Natternbach. This initially had no consequences, but set in motion a series of events that ended in the Upper Austrian Peasants' War. In May of the same year, the Catholic priest was chased away in Frankenburg am Hausruck and the keeper of the county was besieged in Schloss Frankenburg . In order to nip further uprisings in the bud, Adam Graf von Herberstorff set an example with the Frankenburg dice game . But this increased the anger of the Protestant peasants even more, whereupon the Peasants' War began in May 1626 with the first fighting in Lembach in the Mühlkreis .
Together with other villages in the “Dark Corner”, as Herberstorff called the rebellious farming communities, a troop consisting of several hundred peasants under the command of Hansen Vischer was provided, which was extremely strong and at the same time powerful for the time, around the Bavarian troops and troops To drive St. Agatha , Neukirchen am Walde and even Peuerbach out of the same town. This succeeded in a first battle, and the farmers captured cannons and modern weapons from the Bavarian soldiers.
When Count Herberstorff wanted to move out with a large detachment of Bavarian professional soldiers in order to repel the rebels in Peuerbach, he was surprised by an ambush by the peasants in the middle of the march on the Ledererwiese. They fought resolutely against Herberstorff's elite soldiers, the Black Riders of Munich , so that the count could only save himself with a small troop through an uncontrolled escape. All Bavarian infantry remained behind on the battlefield. In this battle, too, the peasants captured large amounts of war material. However, when the siege of the provincial capital Linz failed, all the high personalities of the peasants were captured, including Hansen Vischer. They were allowed to choose between conversion to Catholicism or death. Hansen Vischer was the only one of them who chose death so as not to lose face.
Since 1490 Natternbach has been part of the Principality of Austria ob der Enns . During the Napoleonic Wars , the place was occupied several times. Since 1918 the place belongs to the federal state of Upper Austria. After the annexation of Austria to the German Reich on March 13, 1938, the place belonged to the Gau Oberdonau. In 1945 Upper Austria was restored.
