Johannes Marböck

Johannes Marböck (born February 8, 1935 in Natternbach , Upper Austria ) is an Austrian Catholic writer on the Old Testament .

Life

Johannes Marböck studied theology and philosophy at the Kollegium Petrinum and the seminary in Linz. He was ordained a priest on July 5, 1959. After working as a chaplain in Upper Austria, he completed a doctorate at the Pontifical Biblical Institute in Rome from 1965 to 1968 , then also in Jerusalem. From 1968 to 1970 he was assistant for the Old Testament at the University of Graz . In 1970 he completed his habilitation in Graz.

In 1970 he was offered a professorship for the Old Testament at the Philosophical-Theological University in Linz . In 1976 he switched to a professorship for Old Testament biblical studies in Graz. From 1985 to 1987 he was also dean of the Catholic Theological Faculty of the University of Graz. In 2003 he retired.

From 1988 to 2004 he was the successor of Georg Hansemann Prior for the Commandery Graz of the Order of Knights of the Holy Sepulcher in Jerusalem ; his successor was Abbot Petrus Steigenberger OCist. Since 2004 he has been a canon of the imperial foundation at the cathedral chapter in Linz.
