Petrus Steigenberger OCist (born September 26, 1933 in Lilienfeld , Austria as Andreas Steigenberger ; † June 23, 2009 ) was abbot of Rein Abbey from 1996 to 2008.

Petrus Steigenberger joined the Cistercian foundation Lilienfeld as a late caller . After studying at the Pontifical Athenaeum of Saint Anselm in Rome, he received in 1962 in the cathedral of St. Poelten , the ordination . After working as a chaplain and for the order in Rome, he was head of the building department of the Lilienfeld monastery from 1968 to 1974. From 1979 to 1996 he was also director of the Cursillo movement in the diocese of St. Pölten . From 1974 to 1996 he was pastor in Wilhelmsburg , from 1989 to 1996 he was also dean of the Lilienfeld dean's office.

In 1996, Petrus Steigenberger was elected 56th abbot of the Cistercian monastery in Rein. On November 3, 1996, he received by Johann Weber , the benediction . His motto was: In caritate servire - serve with love. In 2008 he resigned from the office of abbot due to age.

He was invested in the Order of Knights of the Holy Sepulcher in Jerusalem in 1998 and, in 2004, succeeded Johannes Marböck as Prior of the Commandery Graz of the Order of Knights of the Holy Sepulcher in Jerusalem.

He was particularly committed to the extensive renovation work of Rein Abbey. For this he was honored with the Great Gold Medal of Honor of the State of Styria in July 2008 .

Former Abbot Petrus Steigenberger died on June 23, 2009 at the age of 75 as a result of a stroke.
