Marquard II vom Berg (* 1528 in Öpfingen ; † January 28, 1591 in Dillingen ) was Bishop of Augsburg from 1576 to 1591. Before that, he was provost and dean of the cathedral in Bamberg and Augsburg .

Life

Marquard II vom Berg began studying at the University of Ingolstadt at the age of 13 and graduated successfully in 1545. From 1548 he began to study law in Padua and Pavia. In 1551 Marquard II vom Berg interrupted his studies and took over the cathedral parish Langweid near Augsburg. He then completed his studies and received his doctorate in 1554. In 1559 he joined the provost of Bamberg as dean of the cathedral . On July 26, 1575, Marquard II von Berg was elected as Bishop of Augsburg, but at the same time retained his office in Bamberg. The witch hunt was carried out under Marquard II vom Berg . Under him, among others, Walpurga housewife was accused of witchcraft and executed. He died on January 28, 1591 and was buried at his own request in the St. Johannes Evangelista castle chapel in Dillingen.
