Christian Feurstein
Christian Feurstein OCist (* as Georg Maria Feurstein on October 14, 1958 in Hohenems , Vorarlberg ; † March 12, 2017 in Vienna ), was an Austrian Roman Catholic religious priest . From 2010 to March 9, 2015 he was abbot of Rein Abbey in Styria .
Life
Georg Maria Feurstein came after his graduation on 15 November 1977 together with Gregor Henckel-Donnersmarck in the Cistercian monastery of Heiligenkreuz , took there the religious name Christian to, put on 1 November 1981 his solemn profession from, was on December 26 in 1981 by Franz Jachym ordained a deacon. After his theological studies at the University ebendortigen, he received on May 23 in 1983 by the then Archbishop Curia Augustin Mayer OSB the priesthood . From 1983 to 1987 he was chaplain in the monastery parish Neukloster in Wiener Neustadt ; then he was appointed prefect of the junior council in Heiligenkreuz.
In 1988 founded Feurstein with three brothers, the Priory Stiepel in Bochum district Stiepel , where he remained until 2001 Subprior and 2001-2004 Prior was. From 2004 to 2010 Feurstein was Prior and Novice Master in Heiligenkreuz.
On June 8, 2010 Feurstein was elected abbot of Rein Abbey. Confirmation by the religious congregation took place on June 21st and the installation on July 12th. On August 21, 2010 he received the benediction from Maurus Esteva Alsina . His motto was: Christum semper ante oculos - Christ always in front of your eyes .
In 2013 Christian Feurstein was accepted into the Knightly Order of the Holy Sepulcher in Jerusalem with the rank of Grand Officer (Komtur with star) and invested in the Mondsee Basilica on September 21, 2013 by Cardinal Grand Master Edwin Frederick O'Brien . He belonged to the Graz Commandery.
Feurstein resigned as abbot on March 9, 2015 due to a serious heart disease and returned to Heiligenkreuz Abbey, where he spent the last two years of his life. He found his final resting place in the north aisle of the Abbey Church of Heiligenkreuz.
