Doktor Martin was a doctor series produced by the production company Phoenix Film for ZDF . The first season first aired in July 2007, the second season in May 2009.
The series is an adaptation of the English television series Doc Martin , conceived by Dominic Minghella and has been broadcast on Independent Television (ITV) since 2004 . In 2009 the series was discontinued due to moderate success.

The story is about the Berlin vascular surgeon Dr. Martin Helling (Axel Milberg), who quit his job in Berlin because of a blood phobia and moves to the quaint East Frisian fishing village of Neuharlingersiel to look for a new start. But everything is different there than in big city life. There is no hectic practice there. Patients prefer to stay for a chat over a cup of tea. Apart from Neuharlingersiel, other place names used are fictitious. The narrative structure of the series is primarily based on a strong exaggeration of alleged East Frisian peculiarities of the characters.
