occupation

Gladbeck is a two-part film drama from 2018 that was produced by Ziegler Film under the direction of Kilian Riedhof . The focus of the action is the nationwide known hostage-taking of Gladbeck in August 1988. The first broadcast took place on March 7th and 8th, 2018 in the first .

action

August 1988. Two criminals, Hans-Jürgen Rösner and Dieter Degowski, attack a bank in Gladbeck . With a requested getaway car, they take the employees of the financial institution hostage. A two-day escape from the police begins. A short time later they hijack a bus in Bremen with Rösner's friend Marion Löblich, now an accomplice .

While there are now several hostages in the hands of the bank robbers, those responsible in politics and the police, especially the head of operations Friedhelm Meise, have to put up with many questions. 14-year-old Emanuele von Degowski is shot in the head at the Grundbergsee motorway service station. When the hostage-taking intervened against the hostage-takers fleeing in a car on the autobahn near Bad Honnef , there was a violent exchange of fire in which the hostage Silke Bischoff was fatally hit.

The film was shot in 2016. The shooting took place in Delmenhorst (the scenes in downtown Bremen ), in Duisburg (the scenes in downtown Cologne ), in Duisburg-Hochfeld (the scene in which the hostage-taking began in the bus), in the Eichkamp car park A 555, on the A 281 in Bremen and Dusseldorf as well as partly at original locations in Gladbeck.

reception

criticism

Johnny Bastiampillai, a bus hostage from Bremen, said on the Maischberger talk show , which was broadcast after the first part, that he would not watch the film because he did not want to support it. In particular, he considered the time of the first broadcast in March 2018 to be questionable. After all, this does not coincide with the anniversary in August, but with Degowski's release from prison just a few weeks earlier. "This is a tribute to Degowski," said Bastiampillai.

The De Giorgi family, who returned to Italy after the death of their son Emanuele, refused all attempts at contact during the preparation of the film. In a documentation sent after the second part of what happened at the time, the family, especially their daughter Tatiana, reported on their experiences.

The film received much praise in the press. Welt.de writes about a fantastically made two-parter that unfolds the effect of a documentary film. In the features section of the FAZ it is referred to as a "rightly highly praised film". The Frankfurter Rundschau believes that the actors play so intensely in the powerful and depressing film that it almost physically hurts to watch them at times.

Audience ratings

The first part of the film saw 4.99 million viewers of all ages, giving Das Erste a market share of 15.3 percent. In the advertising-relevant target group , the market share with 1.70 million viewers was 15.0 percent. It is the most successful Wednesday film in the first since January 1, 2014. The second part saw 4.10 million viewers of all age groups (12.1 percent market share) and reached 1.22 million viewers (10.1 percent) in the target group Market share).
