The Open Air Film Festival Weiterstadt is an international film festival founded in Weiterstadt in 1977 . It takes place every year in the Braunshardter Tännchen . Several screens will be set up there during the event and a circus tent used as a cinema on the nearby football field.

Short and feature films alternate with international participation. In addition to feature films, documentaries are also shown. The following formats will be played at the Filmfest: 16 mm , 35 mm , Super-8 , DVD and DCP .

In 1999 the "Jelkin" parties took place here for the first time. In addition to numerous offers, such as live music, there has been an audience competition for the Weiterstädter Filmhirsch for the best Super 8 film since 1997. The Open Air Film Festival is financially supported by the Hessian Film Fund.

At the Open Air Film Festival from August 16 to 20, 2007, the film jury selected 200 films from 30 nations from 1,300 applicants from 70 countries.
