Digital Cinema Package is a container format for images, sound and data. It is used in the cinema to show films. It has been the predominant format since the switch from 35mm film to digital projection.

The image format within the DCP is JPEG 2000 , while the audio format is PCM 24 bit audio . Also included is a playlist in XML format. A common form of distribution is the shipping of hard disks in removable frames. Professional companies specialize in creating a DCP, but there is also the option of creating a DCP yourself with the help of open source software.

A special feature of the DCP is that it can be encrypted via AES encryption in such a way that it can only be played on the target projector.
