Young film scene workshop

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Werkstatt der Junge Filmszene is the oldest young film festival in Germany, which takes place annually over a weekend and gives young filmmakers up to the age of 27 the opportunity to present their films. The films submitted will be viewed by a jury and put together in several blocks to form a program. The workshop is organized by the Junge Filmszene , a project of the Federal Association of Youth and Film.

history

The festival takes place annually on Whitsun for four days, in recent years in the Wilhelm-Kempf-Haus in Wiesbaden-Naurod and in the Caligari Filmbühne in Wiesbaden. There you have the opportunity to get to know each other personally and to make contacts. The aim is not to be competitive, but to create a relaxed atmosphere in which discussions about the films shown take place and the presence of the filmmakers is desired. Workshops are offered to develop or deepen cinematic know-how.

In 1965 the festival of young filmmakers, which is now called the Young Film Scene Workshop, took place for the first time in the city of Werl in North Rhine-Westphalia. From 1970 the organization was taken over by the Bundesarbeitsgemeinschaft der Jugendfilmclubs e. V., which became part of the Bundesverband Jugend und Film e. V. and thus not only took care of the annual planning, but also of supporting the young filmmakers in the periods between the festivals. In 1996 the (service) network was expanded, and the administration of the festival was transferred to the young film scene.

In 2015 the festival had its 50th anniversary. In 2018 there were around 400 submissions and around 100 to 150 participants annually.

Young movie scene

The young film scene is an information network that is active in youth film work. It sees itself as an interface between young filmmakers and various sponsors who support young people in their film work. It is a project of the Bundesverband Jugend und Film e. V.

Film submissions

Since the workshop is a German-language festival, only films in German or with German subtitles are allowed, but otherwise all genres, formats and lengths are allowed. In order to preserve the character of the festival for young filmmakers, the filmmakers must not be older than 27 when the film is finished. Submissions can be made via the internet portal filmfestivals4u.de or by post, whereby only one film may be submitted per director.

If a film is selected for the program, a member of the film team will receive free accommodation at the festival, as well as food and a travel allowance.
