Federal Association of Youth and Film

The Bundesverband Jugend und Film e. V. (BJF), based in Frankfurt am Main, is the largest organization for cultural children and youth film work in Germany with around 1,000 members .

history

The association founded in Mainz in 1970 as the “Federal Working Group for Youth Film Work and Media Education” sees itself as the successor to the “Association of German Film Clubs”, which was dissolved in the same year. The BJF is committed to the interests of children and young people in film. It supports its members and interested persons in questions of non-commercial child and youth film work. Members of the association are cultural centers , school and youth film clubs , youth centers , adult education centers , church and regional media centers , and educatorsas well as film and media professionals. The respective regional associations (e.g. Landesverband Jugend und Film Schleswig-Holstein ) ensure that contacts are maintained and on-site support .

With the BJF-Clubfilmothek, the BJF operates its own film rental company with over 500 films in 16mm film , DVD or Blu-ray format for non-commercial children and youth film work. The BJF magazine appears four times a year to provide information to the members . The association publishes film books, brochures and materials for media educational work . He organizes film festivals, seminars, workshops and conferences, and organizes the information network “Young Film Scene” for young filmmakers and video professionals.

The BJF is represented worldwide by the Fédération Internationale des Ciné-Clubs (FICC), the international association of film clubs which, among other things, organizes juries at around 20 international film festivals. There are also memberships in the European Children's Film Association (ECFA) and the Federal Association for Cultural Education for Children and Young People (BKJ).

The BJF is funded by the Federal Ministry for Family, Seniors, Women and Youth .
