The Bundesvereinigung Kulturelle Kinder- und Jugendbildung eV (BKJ) is both the umbrella organization of the federal associations, regional associations and national institutions of cultural education in Germany as well as a professional association for the further development and promotion of cultural children and youth education.

Activities of the BKJ

The BKJ represents the interests of the associations and institutions in relation to parliament and government and acts as a lobby for cultural education in the public. The aim is to secure and further develop cultural education with, by and for children and young people.

Further tasks are:

  • Quality assurance through specialist conferences, pilot projects, evaluation
  • Policy advice and advocacy, advice on the development of federal programs for cultural education
  • Participation in committees and institutions of national and international importance
  • Establishing and securing structures that improve cultural work with, by and for children and young people
  • Public relations through press work, publications, newsletters
  • Preparation of materials, information, aids to argumentation, arranging funding
  • Information and advice: Exchange of information and experience among member associations and other interested groups
  • Central office work for the German-French and German-Polish youth organizations
  • Coordination of the nationwide association for the proof of competence in culture
  • Service and development center for technical support and implementation of cooperation between schools and extracurricular cultural institutions
  • The BKJ is the federal central sponsor of the Voluntary Social Year in Culture (FSJ Culture) .
  • Promotion of international youth culture projects and meetings with experts.

The association is a signatory of the Transparent Civil Society Initiative .

Members

The BKJ is an amalgamation of 42 nationally operating professional associations and institutions and 14 regional associations of cultural children and youth education. The areas of music, games, theater, dance, circus, visual arts, literature, photography, film and video, children's museums, new media and cultural education are represented.
