Susanne Keuchel
Susanne Keuchel (born November 11, 1966 in Ratingen ) is a German music and cultural scientist . She is director of the Academy of Cultural Education of the Federal Government and the State of North Rhine-Westphalia and has published numerous publications on cultural research and cultural education. She has been President of the German Cultural Council since March 2019 .
Life and work
Keuchel studied musicology, German literature and sociology at the University of Bonn and at the Technical University of Berlin. She did her doctorate in 1999 with Helga de la Motte in Berlin on the subject of "Audiovisual music reception in feature films".
From 1993 to 2013 she worked as a scientist at the Center for Cultural Research in Bonn, most recently from 2009 to 2013 as managing director. Since December 2013 she has been the director of the Academy of Cultural Education of the Federal Government and the State of North Rhine-Westphalia. V. and chair of the Institute for Cultural Education e. V. (IbK). Since November 2018 she has been chairwoman of the Federal Association for Cultural Education for Children and Young People . On March 20, 2019, the Speaker Council of the German Cultural Council elected Susanne Keuchel to succeed Christian Höppner as President of the German Cultural Council.
In her role as director of the Academy of Cultural Education of the Federal Government and the State of North Rhine-Westphalia, Susanne Keuchel is co-founder of the “European Network of Observatories” (ENO) as the national “Observatory for Arts and Culture Education” under the patronage of the German UNESCO Commission . The aim of the European network is to stimulate and expand the exchange and joint research activities in the field of cultural education, for example to develop a monitoring system for the national cultural education systems in Europe.
Susanne Keuchel is honorary professor at the Institute for Cultural Policy at the University of Hildesheim and a lecturer at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Hamburg .
Her main work and publication topics are empirical research on cultural visitors, the application of new technologies in the field of culture, cultural education and diversity . Susanne Keuchel is among other things the author of the books "Cultural Education in All-Day Schools" and "The 1st InterKulturBarometer" as well as the series "JugendkulturBarometer". She is also the editor of the new series "Perspektivenwechsel Kulturelle Bildung. Fachdiskurs. Furtherbildung. Research" at transcript Verlag .
