Professional association refers to the voluntary association of persons, corporations and legal persons from a technical point of view to represent common interests. The trade association is a form of interest group , trade associations of companies are mostly branch associations , otherwise there are also trade associations as branch-specific departments of business associations.

A professional association is usually financed from membership fees and donations. The members elect the board of directors and the chairman, who usually work on a voluntary basis . In Austria, a trade association is specifically the representation of the individual industrial sectors within the Austrian Chamber of Commerce , e.g. B. the professional association of the film and music industry (FAMA) or the professional association of the mineral oil industry .
