Society for technical communication
The Society for Technical Communication e. V. ( tekom ) based in Stuttgart is a trade association for technical documentation .
The association was founded in 1978 and is a member of the European Association for Technical Communication (tekom Europe). With 8,000 individual members and 725 corporate memberships, it is the largest European association in the industry. The aim of the association is to promote the exchange of information and experience as well as the training and further education of its members and to increase the importance of technical communication in companies and in the public.
Meetings
Two multi-day conferences are held annually, each associated with a trade fair.
The autumn conference takes place annually in November. The venue from 2014 to at least 2019 has been Messe Stuttgart . Before that, the autumn conferences took place in the Rhein-Main-Hallen in Wiesbaden , which have not been available since summer 2014 due to demolition and new construction. In 2014, the conference and trade fair were visited by 4,100 people, 188 companies exhibited (2013: 3,700 visitors, almost 200 exhibitors; 2012: 3,700 visitors, 194 exhibitors; 2011: 3,400 visitors).
The two-day spring conference takes place at different venues every year, for example in 2014 in Augsburg, 2015 in Darmstadt and 2016 in Berlin. It is significantly smaller than the autumn conference: in 2014, 850 people attended the conference and trade fair in Augsburg, where 42 companies exhibited (2013 in Münster: 657 visitors, 44 exhibitors; 2012 in Karlsruhe: 557 visitors, 38 exhibitors).
