Association of Choir Directors

The professional association of choir directors (FDC) was founded in 1920 under the name “Association of academically trained choir directors e. V. ”founded in Cologne . Founding members such as Willy Schell , Fritz Spieß , Franz Wildt and Mathieu Neumann were chaired by Prof. Josef Schwarz . The association was temporarily banned under National Socialism and was re-established in 1955 under the name: "Fachverband Deutscher Berufschorleiter". After intensive discussion, an ordinary general assembly decided to rename it to “Association of Choir Directors (FDC)”.

The purpose of the association was to create an organization to represent the interests of professional choir directors in public.

Intermittently banned by National Socialism , the association was reconstituted after the war and has been called “Fachverband Deutscher Berufschorleiter e. V. “with its association headquarters in Cologne. Peter Hammers became chairman and he managed to tie numerous well-known professional choir directors to the FDB.

Activities and tasks

The FDB sees its main areas of activity u. a. with the creation of a choir conducting contract, as well as the publication of the guide through the literature of the well-composed male choirs .
