The German Association for Educational and Career Advice e. V. ( dvb ) is the trade association for professional educational and career counselors in Germany. It was founded in 1956 under the name of the German Society for Careers Advice and Professional Studies (DGBB). In 1964 the company merged with the professional association of German professional advisers and in 1968 became the German association for professional advice. V. The dvb is non-profit , its active members work on a voluntary basis .

aims

The aim of the association is to “promote educational and career counseling as an important social task and as a contribution to the realization of basic rights according to Art. 2 GG (free development of personality) and Art. 12 GG (free choice of profession, job and training facility ), “To create awareness of the individual and social significance of counseling and to clarify how educational and career counseling can support a person in career and educational decisions in times of lifelong learning and diverse employment histories.

The dvb is committed to ensuring that the professional quality of advice is guaranteed and is guided by international quality standards for advisory services. Another goal is consumer protection and support in the search for a consultant. The association also represents the interests of professional educational and career advisors.

Membership structure and structure

The dvb currently has around 600 members.

The association is divided into eight regional groups, which serve in particular for networking and on-site training. There is an increasing number of specialist exchanges and reflections in four specialist groups:

  • Expert group advice for academic education and career paths
  • Professional group self-employed consultants
  • Section dvb research forum
  • Professional group career guidance Zurich-Mainzer-Modell

Further specialist groups are planned.

Fields of work

Initial and continuing education

The organization of advanced training courses and specialist conferences is one of the basic services of the professional association. The events provide an opportunity for networking and professional exchange.

Quality development

The development of quality criteria and the agreement on uniform standards of the advisors in education, occupation and employment is a central task of the dvb. In addition to an internal quality discussion, the association is involved in the coordination process of quality advice of the National Forum for Advice in Education, Profession and Employment and is also in exchange with the Federal Employment Agency. The dvb also describes the competencies and qualifications of consultants.

Lobbying

The association maintains a regular dialogue with representatives from relevant political and administrative areas (political parties, federal ministries, labor administration) and interest groups (trade unions, business and employers' associations).

Advisory Science

The dvb supports the scientific advancement and dissemination of counseling theories and methods by participating in research projects, issuing specialist publications as well as articles in specialist journals and position papers.

Consumer protection

The association provides information on which services professional educational and career counselors offer and which skills they bring with them in order to provide guidance to those seeking advice on the selection of suitable counselors.

Networking

Representatives of the dvb participate in national and international umbrella organizations in setting the course for a lifelong advisory service. The dvb maintains contacts with professional associations for educational and career counseling in Europe.

International cooperation

Since its inception, the dvb has maintained contacts with partner organizations abroad (including France, Great Britain, Sweden, Spain, Poland) and thus actively contributes to the exchange between practitioners, especially in the European context. The association is a member of the AIOSP (Association Internationale pour l'Orientation Scolaire et Professionnelle - International Association for Educational and Career Advice)

Publications

  • dvb-forum: The dvb's trade magazine appears twice a year. It has been available in the digital journal library for science and educational practice since 2014.
  • dvb-Script: In this series, lectures from the annual conferences and basic articles from the dvb-forum are published as a brochure.
  • dvb-infos: News and information on association work and from the regional and specialist groups.
