Gina Haller (* 1987 in Basel ) is a Swiss actress .

Life

Gina Haller grew up in a small village not far from Basel, where she was born. Her mother is Swiss, her father Ivorian . When she was 14, her parents separated; her father went to Paris and later back to his homeland. After graduating from high school, Haller followed him to Paris. Her bilingualism - German and French - made this step easier for her. She also found a black community there for the first time . Haller worked for a number of years in various professions - in bakeries, bars and at H&M - before continuing her training.

Haller was on stage at a young age. She was involved in Sebastian Nübling's production of Fucking Amal , a co-production of the Junge Theater Basel with the Theater Basel , but left after one season and turned her back on drama for a few years. When she turned to him again in Paris in 2009, she was immediately accepted into the "Classe libre" of the renowned private drama school Cours Florent , which selects 20 from around 1,700 applicants per season and enables them to take a 2-year special course free of charge. Haller then went on to study acting at the Bern University of the Arts , which she successfully completed in 2015.

In the same year she was engaged at the Trier Theater. Two years later she moved to the Bremen Theater . She has been a member of the Schauspielhaus Bochum ensemble since the 2018/19 season . So far Haller has worked under the direction of Thorleifur Örn Arnason , Ronny Jakubaschk , Alize Zandwijk, Julia Wissert , Karin Henkel and Johan Simons, among others . Her participation in Johan Simons' production of Shakespeare's Hamlet - which was invited to the Berlin Theatertreffen 2020 and subsequently shown on television as the opening piece - earned her greater attention. For the role of Ophelia, which merges with that of Horatio in the direction concept, she received the award “Young Actress of the Year” in 2020 in the critics' survey of the magazine Theater heute .
