Ilse Ritter (born June 20, 1944 in Schaumburg , today a district of Rinteln ) is one of the most important German actresses . Known for her art of speaking, she was named Actress of the Year in 1985 and 1994 . She "has been one of the most successful theater actresses in the country for decades"

life and career

Ilse Ritter was born as the daughter of the Germanist , pedagogue and author Heinz Ritter (-Schaumburg) and grew up with two sisters and her brother Hans Martin Ritter in the Schaumburg district . She later attended the Hanover Drama School (later the Hanover University of Music and Drama ). Since then she has appeared in numerous roles, mainly on stage, but also in film and television.

She made her debut in 1963 at the Stadttheater Darmstadt , where she was engaged until 1967. Further stations were the Wuppertaler Bühnen in 1968/69 , the Staatstheater Stuttgart in 1970 , the Deutsches Schauspielhaus in Hamburg in 1971 , the Schauspielhaus Düsseldorf in 1972 and the Schaubühne in Berlin from 1973 to 1977 . After that she played at various theaters , but especially at the Schauspielhaus Bochum and the Schauspielhaus Hamburg. Since 1996 she has been a member of the Free Academy of the Arts Hamburg and since 1998 a member of the German Academy of Performing Arts . Until 2017 she was a member of the Berliner Ensemble .

Thomas Bernhard , who was extremely critical of the actors, wrote her and the actors Kirsten Dene and Gert Voss her own play, which was premiered at the Salzburg Festival in 1986 under the direction of Claus Peymann , then added to the repertoire of the Vienna Burgtheater and performed on various stages for many years : Ritter, Dene, Voss . Bernhard had written the names of the desired premiere actors in the title, as he had repeatedly experienced that his plays had not been cast with his preferred candidates.

Ilse Ritter has played in over one hundred plays at the theater so far, which have been performed up to one hundred and sixty times.
