Olaf Altmann

Olaf Altmann (* 1966 in Karl-Marx-Stadt ) is a German set designer .

Olaf Altmann began his theater career as a stage technician at the Stadttheater Karl-Marx-Stadt. In 1990 he also designed his first set for a production by Hasko Weber at this theater . After working at the Volksbühne at Rosa-Luxemburg-Platz in Berlin , he became a permanent set designer in Chemnitz in 1993, where he then worked for the first time with the director Michael Thalheimer , whose permanent set designer he has been since then.

Olaf Altmann has also distinguished himself as a theater director and has staged at the theaters in Kassel , Dresden and Cologne .

2001 received the 3sat-Preis at the Berlin Theatertreffen for Liliom , Thalia Theater Hamburg (together with Michael Thalheimer ). In 2002 he was nominated for the Nestroy Theater Prize. In 2008 Altmann was honored for his stage design in Die Ratten at the Deutsches Theater Berlin by the magazine Theater heute with the award Stage Design of the Year . He also received the Faust Theater Prize for this in 2008. In 2016 he was awarded the Rolf Mares Prize for the stage design of the production of Les Troyens at the Hamburg State Opera .
