Life
Antú Romero Nunes was born to a Portuguese father and a Chilean mother. He grew up in Tübingen , where he attended the Geschwister-Scholl-Schule . After his first theater experience as a director and actor at the Lindenhof Theater in Melchingen , a free theater of the so-called off-scene , Antú Romero Nunes initially worked in Chile as a director and production assistant for theater and film productions. After returning to Germany, he assisted and staged at the open-air theater in Schwäbisch Hall , before he began studying at the Ernst Busch Academy of Dramatic Art in Berlin in 2005 and graduated in summer 2009 with his diploma production, Der Geisterseher von Schiller. These and other productions brought him attention as a young director. In 2010 he became the youngest in-house director in the history of the Maxim-Gorki-Theater Berlin. He presented his first directorial work in the field of music theater in 2014 at the Bavarian State Opera in Munich.
From the 2020/2021 season onwards, dramaturgists Anja Dirks (managing director) and Inga Schonlau (chief dramaturge), director Antú Romero Nunes (strategic development) and actor Jörg Pohl will head the drama division at Theater Basel as an equal team of four .
