The Geschwister-Scholl-Schule ( GSS for short ) in Tübingen is a school association with a grammar school and a community school .
history
The school was founded in 1971 as a comprehensive school in Tübingen as an integrated comprehensive school. At that time she still used the rooms of today's elementary school on the tub . It later moved to its current building in the Waldhäuser Ost district . At the end of the 1980s, the comprehensive school was abolished, and the current Geschwister-Scholl-Schule emerged from it as a school association. The two types of school exist under one roof, but are structurally or organizationally separated.
The Geschwister-Scholl-Schule was subjected to extensive renovation and expansion measures.
Surname
The name of the Geschwister-Scholl-Schule goes back to the siblings Hans and Sophie Scholl , who, as members of the White Rose, resisted National Socialism . The school initially had the white rose symbol in its logo; today it is the silhouettes of Hans and Sophie.
Structure and profile
Around 1000 students attend the grammar school (school year 2014/2015), 600 attend the community school (school year 2014/2015). The teaching staff consists of around 150 teachers.
Martin Schall has been head of the school network and grammar school since the 2017/2018 school year. The community school is headed by Christoph Schnittert.
The Geschwister-Scholl-Schule's grammar school offers four profiles: a scientific , a linguistic , a sport and a visual arts profile, as well as a Spanish profile. There is also a bilingual train, in which the students in the lower grades have additional English lessons and from the middle grades onwards, one subject per year is taught in English.
particularities
The Geschwister-Scholl-Schule has been a UNESCO project school since the summer of 1989 , an award for special educational and political commitment. Every school year, project days are carried out in the spirit of UNESCO .
One focus of the Geschwister-Scholl-Schule lies in the field of sport, which receives special support there. At the beginning of the 1995/1996 school year, the Baden-Württemberg Ministry of Culture appointed it to be a partner school for sports .
In addition to sports, other extracurricular activities are also very important at the Geschwister-Scholl-Schule, for example in the form of working groups (AG) such as the Theater AG.
There is a branch of the Tübingen city library in the school building , which is not part of the school in terms of organization.
