Club career
Beginnings
Thilo Kehrer, son of a Burundian mother and a German father, was born in Tübingen, Baden-Württemberg . From 1999 to 2005 he played for TSG Tübingen . After six years he was drawn to SSV Reutlingen 05 . After four years in Reutlingen, he joined the youth academy of VfB Stuttgart . In 2012, he switched to the young talent center ( Knappenschmiede ) of FC Schalke 04 .
FC Schalke 04
Kehrer was a top performer in his first season in the B-Jugend and scored five goals in 25 appearances. He played exclusively as a central defender this season. In the end, he and his team won the West German championship and became the Westphalia Cup winner. During this season he was also in the A-youth squad four times and was used three times. For the 2013/14 season he was scheduled for the A youth squad, in which he found his regular position on the six , but also helped out in central defense and as a right full-back. He also gained experience in the UEFA Youth League . There they were eliminated in the semi-finals against FC Barcelona . At the end of the season he was with the A-youth West German champion and Westphalia Cup winner. In the following season 2014/15 Kehrer became team captain .
On December 6, 2014, the 14th matchday of the 2014/15 season , he was in the Schalke team for the first time, but remained in the 4-0 away win against his former club VfB Stuttgart without a stake. Roberto Di Matteo invited Kehrer to the training camp in Qatar , where he was injured in the first test match against Ajax Amsterdam and was substituted there. For the 2015/16 season, Kehrer moved up to the professional team and was given the number 20 on his shirt. His contract was extended by an option for this. However, he also signed a contract with Inter Milan . However, he did not appear at the start of training in July 2015 and instead kept himself fit privately in Stuttgart. He only returned to FC Schalke 04 in August 2015 and initially trained with the second team. Horst Heldt spoke of the fact that Kehrer was advised wrongly. His adviser was therefore banned from the house. Since October 15, 2015, he has been training with the first team again. His contract, which expired at the end of the season, was extended by three years in January 2016.
On February 6, 2016, he made his Bundesliga debut in a 3-0 home win against VfL Wolfsburg when he came on for Johannes Geis in the 90th minute of the game . On April 1, 2017, he scored his first Bundesliga goal to make it 1-1 in the game against Borussia Dortmund.
Paris Saint-Germain
For the 2018/19 season, Kehrer moved to Ligue 1 for Paris Saint-Germain for 37 million euros . He signed a contract with the French champions coached by Thomas Tuchel that ran until June 30, 2023. On August 25, 2018, he made his debut in a 3-1 win against SCO Angers .
National team
Kehrer made his first game for the German U-16 national team on May 23, 2012 in a 5-0 win over Denmark. He scored his first goal for this youth team in the 48th minute. Just three days later he scored his first international goal in a 2-1 win against the U-20s of the Netherlands. On November 12, 2015, he led the team onto the field as captain for the first time. On March 24, 2017, Kehrer made his debut in the German U-21 national team . At the U-21 European Championship in 2017 , where he won the title with Germany, he played in the semi-finals against England .
