Katrin Brack

Katrin Brack (* 1958 ) is a German stage designer .

Life

From 1978 to 1984 Brack studied stage design at the Düsseldorf Art Academy in Karl Kneidl's class . After her studies she was assistant to Karl-Ernst Herrmann at Schauspielhaus Bochum under the direction of Claus Peymann . She has worked at the Deutsches Theater Berlin , the Maxim-Gorki-Theater Berlin, the Schaubühne Berlin, the Volksbühne Berlin , the Deutsches Schauspielhaus Hamburg, the Thalia Theater Hamburg, the Münchner Kammerspiele and the Burgtheater Vienna. She repeatedly worked with the directors Dimiter Gotscheff and Luk Perceval .

Brack received numerous awards. In 2000, 2002, 2004, 2006, 2007 and 2016 pieces with their sets were invited to the Berlin Theatertreffen . In 2004, 2005 and 2007 she was voted set designer of the year in the critics' poll of the magazine Theater heute . In 2007 and 2017 she received the Vienna Nestroy Theater Prize . In 2006 she was awarded the German Theater Prize Der Faust .

Brack has been Professor of Stage Design at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich since 2009 . She is a member of the German Academy of Performing Arts .

In 2017 she was awarded the Golden Lion for her life's work at the Venice Theater Biennale and in 2019 the Hein Heckroth Stage Design Prize.
