Muriel Gerstner

Muriel Gerstner (born December 9, 1962 in Basel ) is a Swiss stage and costume designer .

Life

After an apprenticeship as a theater painter at the Stadttheater Bern , Gerstner studied stage design and costume design with Axel Manthey and Klaus Zehelein at the University of Applied Arts Vienna . After completing her studies, she was Axel Manthey's assistant at the Stuttgart State Theater .

Gerstner worked at the Theater Basel , the Schaubühne Berlin, the Schauspielhaus Bochum , the Deutsches Schauspielhaus Hamburg, the Schauspielhaus Hannover , the Deutsches Schauspielhaus Hamburg, the Münchner Kammerspiele , the State Theater Stuttgart and the Schauspielhaus Zurich . She repeatedly worked with the director Sebastian Nübling and the musician Lars Wittershagen.

Gerstner received numerous awards. In 1997 and 2000 she received the Swiss Federal Award for Design. In 2002, she was voted young stage designer of the year in the critics' survey by Theater heute magazine . In 2002 she was voted set designer of the year in the critics' poll of Theater heute magazine. In 2007 she was awarded the 3sat innovation prize together with Sebastian Nübling and Lars Wittershagen. In 2007 she officially represented Switzerland at the 11th International Quadrennial for Stage Design and Theater Architecture in Prague.
