Victoria Behr

Victoria Behr (* 1979 in Koblenz ) is a German costume designer .

life and work

Victoria Behr studied costume design with Dirk von Bodisco at the University of Applied Sciences in Hamburg. After completing her studies, she assisted at the Schauspielhaus Bochum, the Schauspielhaus Zurich, the Zurich Opera House and at the Salzburg Festival.

Victoria Behr has been working as a freelance costume designer since 2008, including in close collaboration with the director Herbert Fritsch at the Oberhausen Theater, Centraltheater Leipzig, Theater Bremen, Thalia Theater Hamburg, Schauspiel Köln, Schauspielhaus Zürich, Residenztheater Munich, Opera House Zurich, and the Komische Oper Berlin and the Volksbühne at Rosa-Luxemburg Platz in Berlin.

She designed costumes for the Australian director Benedict Andrews at the Young Vic Theater in London, the Copenhagen Opera House, the Komische Oper Berlin and the Amsterdam Opera House.

She worked with the director Niklaus Helbling at the Schauspielhaus Zürich, the Staatstheater Oldenburg, the Düsseldorfer Schauspielhaus and the Burgtheater in Vienna.

Victoria Behr also works with the directors Peter Carp , Matthias Hartmann (Zurich Opera House / Burgtheater Vienna, Salzburg Festival), Alvis Hermanis (Zurich Theater), Marcus Lobbes (Freiburg Theater), Stefan Pucher (Deutsches Theater Berlin) and Jan Bosse (Bavarian State Opera Munich).

Awards

Victoria Behr has been named "Costume Designer of the Year" in three years in the critics' survey conducted by Theater heute magazine :

  • 2011 for the costume design of Nora directed by Herbert Fritsch at Theater Oberhausen
  • 2012 for the costume design of Die (s) panische Fliege , directed by Herbert Fritsch, Volksbühne am Rosa-Luxemburg-Platz Berlin
  • 2014 for the costume design of Untitled No. 1 , an opera by Herbert Fritsch, Volksbühne am Rosa-Luxemburg-Platz Berlin

For her costumes for Frau Luna , the operetta by Heinz Bolten-Baeckers with music by Paul Lincke, directed by Herbert Fritsch at the Volksbühne in Berlin and for Peter Eötvös' opera Drei Schwestern at the Zurich Opera House, also directed by Herbert Fritsch In 2013, she was voted “Costume Designer of the Year” in the Opernwelt magazine's critics' survey .
