Ewald Palmetshofer

Ewald Palmetshofer (born August 15, 1978 in Linz ) is an Austrian playwright .

Life

Palmetshofer grew up in a rural environment in Mönchdorf in the Mühlviertel . In Vienna , he first studied theater studies and German and then switched to theology and teaching philosophy and psychology. In the 2007/08 season he was brought to the Schauspielhaus Wien by Andreas Beck as a resident author and worked there as a guest dramaturge .

He was selected as a 2008 up-and-coming author in Theater heute critics' poll . His plays “hamlet is dead. No gravity” 2008, “faust has hunger and chokes on a grete” 2010 and “die unmarried” 2014 were invited to the Mülheimer Theatertage . The Burgtheater production of “die unmarriedete” was also invited to the Berlin Theatertreffen. In 2008 he received the Dramatist's Prize from the German Business Culture Association . Also in 2008 he was nominated for the Nestroy Theater Prize in the Best Young Talent category for the Hamlet play. In 2015 he received the Mülheim Dramatist Prize for the unmarried . In 2018 he was awarded the Else Lasker Schüler Dramatist Prize and in 2019 the Gert Jonke Prize .

His plays were premiered at the Vienna Burgtheater , the Schauspielhaus Wien, the Berlin Schaubühne on Lehniner Platz , the Theater an der Ruhr and the Theater Basel , where he has been a dramaturge since the 2015/16 season.
