Retzhofer Drama Prize

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Retzhofer Dramapreis is an Austrian literary prize for young dramatists . It has been awarded every two years by the Drama Forum Graz since 2003 and has (as of 2019) prize money of 5000 euros and, since 2015, a world premiere at the Vienna Burgtheater .

Structures

According to its statutes, the Drama Forum ( de jure uniT GmbH ) behind the Dramapreis sees itself as a work and presentation platform for young authors. This literature prize is therefore not a punctual award, but has a nine- month workshop character. A jury of experts selects around twelve nominees from the applications who actually undertake to take part in all workshops.

The special thing about the Graz concept is the continuous connection between procedural piece development and competition. The final selection participants will be accompanied free of charge by experts in drama and film (actors, directors, dramaturges and authors) in their work on their play . The large number of cooperation partners significantly increases the chance of being noticed and performed at the theaters.

According to the Drama Forum, another special feature is that the five-person final jury determines the winners' drama text without knowing the anonymised author names.

The Dramapreis is financed by earmarked grants from the city of Graz, the federal state of Styria and the federal ministry; However, this does not apply to the realization of performances.

The festive award ceremony takes place in Retzhof Palace, which gave the drama prize its name.
