occupation

Drei gegen Drei is a German mix-up comedy with the NDW band Trio from 1985. Despite the partly prominent cast and the equally prominent staff, the film was a financial disaster, which ultimately resulted in the dissolution of the band Trio.

action

Three generals from the fictional South American dwarf state of San Chaco fled to Germany to be replaced by three doppelgangers who were supposed to be killed in an assassination attempt. The doppelgangers are normal citizens: a dreamer who is permanently in love (Behrens), a mathematics professor (Remmler) and a futures dealer (Krawinkel). The real generals want to go undetected to Switzerland with 300 million dollars from the state treasury of San Chacos .

The doppelgangers are supposed to be brainwashed in a mental hospital, but when they try to escape they are mistaken for the real generals just coming from the airport. While the generals are being brainwashed in their place, the three refugees recognize the representatives of the Swiss bank and initially try in vain to get the money.

The generals, who are exposed to the assassination in ignorance of their authenticity, survive it and now try to kill their doppelgangers. They now announce the end of the military junta via live broadcast , gain access to the 300 million dollars and leave for Switzerland, while the generals are killed in a shootout between the assassin and security forces.

production

The DM 5 million production was shot from the end of March to June 28, 1985 in Berlin . The three generals and their respective doppelgangers are played by a trio. Remmler, Krawinkel and Behrens did not receive any acting lessons, but were instructed in the basics of film production. Only Behrens was able to draw on the knowledge he had gained at the Milan clown school in the late 1970s.

Remarks

  • It opened in theaters on September 25, 1985.
  • Parts of the film music - especially the title song Drei gegen Drei - are from Trio and were released on their last studio album Whats the Password . The song Krach bum bang zack armor was originally intended for the film, but was discarded in the final cut.
  • The interior shots of Trio in a tank could not be shot inside a tank due to lack of space. Instead, the recordings were made in Munich at Bavaria Film , in the original submarine backdrop that was already used for Das Boot .
  • The film was broadcast for the first time and for the last time on German television ( ZDF ) on February 14, 1988 . However, the TV broadcast was cut by a few scenes. In May 1986 the film was released on VHS .
  • Turbine Medien GmbH released the film on DVD and Blu-ray on November 30, 2012 .

criticism

The film received consistently poor reviews. A bad script and poor acting qualities of the protagonists were criticized. In its 1985 film review titled "Rohrkrepierer", Der Spiegel summarized:

“For their embarrassing image as a stupid junta and the presumptuousness of wanting to get away with any movie comedian qualities in another medium, they should actually be punished by looking at their work. Three times a day."

- SPIEGEL No. 39/1985 of September 23, 1985

The DVD and BluRay of the film, released in late 2012, were also panned out. Sven Kabelitz from the German music portal Laut.de writes:

“The three main actors had an evil political satire in the style of ' Dr. Strange, or How I Learned to Love the Bomb 'or' Catch 22 'before. The result is more reminiscent of cheap German slapstick ' Piratensender Powerplay ', ' Sunshine Reggae auf Ibiza ' or the Dieter Thomas Kuhn work ' Der Trip - Die nackte Gitarre 0,5 '. Stephan Remmler is not Peter Sellers, Dominik Graf is not Stanley Kubrick and Ralf Wolter is definitely not James Earl Jones. "

"Hectic comedy in 'anarcho-style', staged without nuances and its own profile."
